SLA Presidents Discuss How to Establish the "Relevancy Level" for Specialized Libraries

Transforming Libraries: SLA President Deb Hunt and SLA Past-President Guy St. Clair

San Diego, CA

International library transformation company Soutron Global announces its sponsorship of a new SLA seminar discussing how to establish special library relevancy. The seminar is scheduled for June 10th from 12:30 pm – 2:00 pm at the San Diego Marriott Marquis Hotel during the SLA 2013 Conference. SLA President Deb Hunt (Information Edge) and SLA Past-President Guy St. Clair (SMR International) will be the guest speakers.

Establishing library relevancy levels and ensuring your strategic vision of those relevancy levels is in synch with current knowledge management practices is a challenge all specialized libraries face today. According to Guy St. Clair: "All libraries are fighting the transformation battle. As specialist librarians and strategic knowledge professionals, it's our job to ensure that the libraries we manage meet the needs of our parent organizations. How do we do that? Simple. We put ourselves forward as knowledge thought leaders, demonstrating to others in the organization - including senior management - that our libraries are relevant."

According to SLA President Deb Hunt, a pressing question many special librarians face today is: "How do we transform ourselves and the places we work or consult in so that others understand the value we bring to the table?"

At this interactive seminar Deb Hunt and Guy St. Clair will share their insights about library strategic vision, current knowledge management/knowledge services practices, and getting a seat at the table when corporate decisions are made about the management of information, knowledge, and strategic learning. You'll learn whether your specialized library is as relevant as it could be and you'll hear about how other specialist librarians moved their libraries to increased organizational and/or corporate relevance. During this session, Soutron Global (booth #424) will also briefly showcase how their transformational library, information, and knowledge management solutions can easily help make your library assets more strategically relevant and easily accessible.

Please RSVP to reserve your seat by registering on our website.

European School of Osteopathy Library Replaces Softlink with Soutron Library Software

Soutron Flexes its Library Software Muscle with European School of Osteopathy

San Diego, CA

International library transformation company Soutron Global announces the selection of its transformative library software solution by the European School of Osteopathy Library, replacing Softlink library software. The European School of Osteopathy (ESO) is located in Maidstone, Kent, UK.

The ESO has a world-class reputation for high quality teaching at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. The flexible Soutron library software and information management solution was selected to help maintain the high standards set in providing knowledge and accurate information to the school’s students. Through the use of customized, intuitive Web forms, the ESO library’s clients have fast and simple access to a wide array of information and resources.

The ESO library provides a wide range of physical and electronic resources to support its curriculum, including access to more than 7,500 texts, a collection of peer-reviewed journals and links with other osteopathic and health libraries enabling inter-library loans. Soutron’s advanced design provides a holistic solution to the school’s library needs. Sue Elliott, Library Supervisor at the ESO explains further, "We needed a new library management system to keep up with the requirements of today’s students and lecturers. Soutron has worked closely with us to move our data across to the new system and we are very pleased with the results. Their expertise and support have been excellent and we look forward to working with them for many years."

Tony Saadat, Soutron Global’s President and CEO comments, "The demands placed on library staff today require us to be as flexible as our software. We are delighted to be part of the support team at ESO. We see our job as helping the Library meet its goals by taking away some of the stresses of the working week."

The inter-relationship between structure and function is of fundamental importance to osteopathy. The design of the Soutron library software solution similarly values the importance of structures and their relationship to function and this is represented in Soutron’s Library and Knowledge Management Systems. Separately, the expert knowledge of experienced, qualified librarians and the modern, flexible Soutron database make it possible for an individual library or information center’s customized needs to be accommodated in a turnkey library software package application.

Soutron Global Compliant With RDA Standard

Highly Flexible Database Structure Accommodates New Cataloging Standard

San Diego, CA

International library transformation company Soutron Global announces full compliance with the new cataloging standard Resource Description and Access (RDA), the new preferred standard for library cataloging that succeeds the Anglo-American Cataloging Rules 2nd Edition (AACR2).

An exciting outcome of this new standard is the support for clustering bibliographic materials in order to show relationships between works and their creators and enabling the disclosure of different editions, abridgements, translations, or formats of any work.

"The flexible database framework used by Soutron provides organic support for RDA," states Tony Saadat, President and CEO of Soutron Global. "This means that in addition to traditional library services, our transformative solution can easily be used by other information communities for information exploitation and knowledge management."

The Soutron library and information management solution can adapt to any protocol that is required or decided upon by a special library, such as Dublin Core etc., due to a very adaptable database structure that accommodates different cataloging rules and styles.
