Ministry of Natural Resources Implements Thesaurus Solution from Soutron Global

Soutron Thesaurus RDF Export Enables Easy Metadata Publishing

San Diego, CA

International library transformation company Soutron Global announces the implementation of their Thesaurus solution at the Canadian Ministry of Natural Resources (NRCan). NRCan develops policies and programs that enhance the contribution of natural resources to the economy.

The Soutron Thesaurus was designed to support librarians, knowledge and information managers responsible for managing terminology, indexes and the relationships between terms. The system addresses the challenge of inconsistent content or data converted from multiple sources, and can help to regulate vocabulary and minimize the occurrence of outmoded or discredited terms in corporate communications.

As a leader in science and technology in energy, forests, and minerals and metals subject matters, NRCan used their expertise in earth sciences to build and maintain an up-to-date metadata system, GeoNetwork Opensource, which is used to catalog ministry data along with information products which are then made available to the public. NRCan’s challenge in implementing their metadata solution was that they required an importable thesaurus in RDF format, which Soutron was able to quickly provide.

"The Soutron team worked very closely with us to develop a solution to meet our needs. They were successful in delivering the solution and did so to meet a very tight deadline," states Shari MacDonald of NRCan. "It was a pleasure working with the Soutron team. They were knowledgeable, receptive to our ideas and very professional."

RDF is the standard for encoding metadata and other knowledge on the Semantic Web. It allows structured and semi-structured data to be mixed, exposed, and shared, in turn enabling users to deal with information with greater efficiency with regards to decision-making. RDF's ability to model disparate, abstract concepts has also led to its increasing use in knowledge management applications, to provide knowledge-based information products as a basis for action.

Multi-site McMillan LLP to Replace Library Automation Software From EOS and Inmagic

San Diego, CA

International library transformation company Soutron Global announces that McMillan LLP, a multi-branch law firm, has recently selected Soutron Global as their international knowledge management solution, replacing older automation software products from both EOS and Inmagic. McMillan LLP has offices in Vancouver, Toronto, Calgary, Ottawa, Montreal and Hong Kong.

"What impressed us most about Soutron was the ease of use of their product, their willingness to partner with us and look at ways of improving the product and their commitment to providing support throughout the implementation process," states Ted Tjaden, National Director, McMillan Knowledge Management.

McMillan LLP prides themselves on their proactive selection and implementation of innovative knowledge management solutions. As the #1 Metals and Mining Financing legal firm in Canada, industry-focused McMillan needs to not only cultivate, curate, and exploit industry knowledge, but also to foster knowledge sharing within their industry practice areas.

The Soutron Global legal library system enables industry-specific knowledge management due to its unique ability to allow the legal worker to enter custom reviews and ratings of materials, catalog their own materials, and provides for multiple classification support across national borders. In this manner, a legal industry knowledge worker in one locale immediately benefits from the knowledge of his associates in other offices without having to directly communicate with them.

"Our goal at Soutron Global has been to partner with our clients to manage library transformation by providing the best technology in the most cost effective manner," says Tony Saadat, Soutron Global President and CEO. Soutron Launches eCommerce Module

San Diego, CA

International library transformation company Soutron Global announces a new eCommerce module to integrate the ever growing Soutron Library and Knowledge Management system with PayPal™. Many professional institutes, associations and organizations manage a variety of content (physical and/or electronic) and are seeking ways to generate income using eCommerce tools.

Soutron makes it easier for visitors to a web site to find materials and for content managers to link related materials. Content can be dynamically published through a conventional OPAC or into a web site to increase income-generating opportunities.

A shopping basket allows a user or member to select items. Related items can suggest comparative items to purchase. A checkout function allows items to be purchased in a single transaction simply and quickly. The total cost is calculated according to the quantity of each item needed, the type of user e.g. student, corporate member etc. Any other rule based criteria for price calculation can be introduced and the price is calculated in a currency appropriate to the location of the user. The transaction is then seamlessly passed to PayPal™ for purchasing through a registered PayPal™ account and funds transferred to the organization's bank account.

Soutron can integrate with a variety of fulfilment processes based on either physical despatch or electronic downloads.

Soutron has developed this added functionality to integrate with their Soutron Library and Knowledge Management System that will be available to clients as an optional module for release in September 2012.

Soutron is committed to bringing new and innovative solutions to market for clients to increase their efficiency and income generating possibilities.

Soutron Global Recognized by Smart Libraries, an ALA TechSource Publication

Past Competitive Leadership Experience, Industry Relationships, Flexibility, Relative Strength of Products, Industry Vendor Investment Upheaval Cited

San Diego, CA

International library transformation company Soutron Global is pleased to announce its recognition in the April 2012, Volume XXXII Number 4 edition of Smart Libraries, an ALA TechSource publication.

In this latest edition, titled "Investing in the Industry," Smart Libraries editor Marshall Breeding covers the value external and internal investors see in the library automation industry, the type of library technology partnerships libraries must make, and recent industry investment upheavals, including the investment in Soutron Global made by industry veteran Tony Saadat.

Soutron Global is a new player in the North American market and brings a new dimension to its full featured integrated library system with its robust integration of digital asset management (DAM) capabilities. Information professionals in special libraries and archives are tasked with making internally created assets as findable as externally created ones that comprise a more traditional library. Soutron Global makes this possible all in one package.

According to Breeding, when it comes to library vendor success, "In the end, the business model or ownership of the company is only one of many factors that come into play as libraries make technology decisions. The strength of products, quality of support, and a solid understanding of library futures are factors, I think, [that] are more important differentiators.”

"The Soutron Global difference is commitment to being responsive to our clients by providing the most flexible library system available, with the best service," responds Saadat. "Further, due to my direct past experience with the technology choices available today, knowledge of how flexible Soutron Global is, industry commitment, and eagerness to partner with libraries to help manage the impactful, transformative challenges they face today, I’m delighted to have my digital library automation software solution, Soutron Global, be recognized by Smart Libraries and Marshall Breeding."
